Plate 59 A from the U.S. Fish Commission's 1884 fisheries plate volume shows The Haddock in profile. The drawing is by H. L. Todd, shown in a modern colour treatment of the original engraving. The back is grey-green, the belly pale blue-grey and the fins tan.
The caption gives Melanogrammus aeglefinus and credits H. L. Todd, from specimen No. 10440 in the U.S. National Museum, collected at Eastport, Maine, in 1872 by the U.S. Fish Commission. A dark lateral line runs from the gill cover to the tail, a dark patch sits above the pectoral fin, three dorsal fins stand along the back, and a scale bar sits at lower right.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
