This is a vintage hand-colored shell plate from George W. Tryon's American Marine Conchology, published in 1873, lettered Plate 43. Each shell carries a small catalogue number, on a cream ground with a fine ruled line around the page.
Nine shells and shell fragments are arranged by number, 534 to 551. The largest, number 538, is a scallop at the foot in banded orange-brown, and above it are smaller scallops in plum, brown and yellow-green mottling. A round shell in cream and pink with a hole at the hinge sits at upper left, and number 551 is a slender pale tube with a hooked top.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
