Theophilus Van Kannel's U.S. Patent 387,571, granted August 7, 1888, documents a storm-door structure. The sheet is headed T. Van Kannel, Storm Door Structure, is marked sheet 1 of 2 sheets, and notes that no model was submitted.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a circular enclosure with a three-armed revolving leaf set on a central hub and braced to a triangular frame, between masonry walls shown in hatching. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same structure, with a curved canopy at the left and glazed door panels. Numerals and letters label the parts, and witnesses, inventor and attorneys sign at the foot.
