The Orbits is a vintage astronomical plate by J. & G. Pickett, published in 1829 as part of the Astronomia series. It is an engraved diagram of the solar system on a warm brown, finely ruled ground, with the title set in cream capitals across the upper part of the plate.

Rays fan out from a glowing sun at the foot of the plate, with small circles for the inner planets and a long line marked as the orbit of the comet of 1680. Wide arcs above are lettered the orbit of Jupiter, the orbit of Saturn and the orbit of Herschel. Slanting columns of text in the upper field list the planets and asteroids by name, including Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter and Saturn.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
