John Gaspard Villar's U.S. Patent 676,164, issued in 1901, documents a boat and yacht propulsion. The sheet is headed J. G. Villar, Propulsion of Boats, Yachts, or the Like, patented June 11, 1901, with the application filed December 10, 1900, and is marked sheet 1 of 2. The drawing shows a hull with a mechanism below the waterline.
Three figures are lettered. Fig. 1 is a side view of the hull, marked a, riding in water with a dotted channel and a chamber marked b, c and f beneath it. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the hull showing two chambers side by side. Fig. 3 is a detailed elevation of the chamber b with a piston marked n, a spring marked g, levers and a switch marked q. Witnesses, the inventor and the attorneys have signed.
