This meticulously detailed street map captures Greater New York City during the early 20th century, when the five boroughs had recently unified into the modern metropolis we know today. The 1898 consolidation created the world's second-largest city, and maps like this one became essential tools for navigating the sprawling urban landscape that now encompassed Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.
Created during New York's explosive growth period, this cartographic gem reflects an era when the city was rapidly expanding its infrastructure—subways tunneling beneath busy streets, bridges spanning rivers, and new neighborhoods emerging seemingly overnight. The careful delineation of every street, avenue, and borough boundary speaks to the precision required to map a city in constant motion. For residents and visitors alike, such maps were lifelines in an age before GPS, helping millions find their way through America's greatest urban experiment.
Reproduced on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using giclée printing with archival inks, ensuring this historical cartography will maintain its rich detail for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
