Moonfish Print, Colored 1898 Fish Plate

The Moonfish appears on Plate 35 of a U.S. Fish Commission report, dated 1898. The engraved linework, the printed Latin name, the common-name caption and the plate number remain, and the pale color is a modern treatment of the historical drawing.
A single fish is drawn in side view, captioned Vomer setipinnis (Mitchill), Moonfish. The rounded, laterally flattened body is washed in pale blue over the back and soft yellow beneath, with a small downturned mouth, a dark round eye and fine grey fin rays. The plate number is printed vertically at the left of the fish.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
