The Sawfish appears on Plate 23 of a U.S. Fish Commission report, dated 1898. The engraved linework, the printed Latin name, the caption and the plate number remain, and the quiet color is a modern treatment of the historical drawing.
The plate shows the same animal twice, captioned Pristis pectinatus Latham, Sawfish, Side and ventral views. The upper figure is a side view with a long toothed snout, two dorsal fins and a pale blue back. Below it is the ventral view, with the broad flat body, the mouth, the gill slits and the toothed saw seen from underneath, in cream and soft yellow.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
