This print reproduces Étienne Léopold Trouvelot's chromolithograph of the total solar eclipse observed at Creston, Wyoming Territory, on July 29, 1878. It was first published in 1882 in The Trouvelot Astronomical Drawings, a series of plates made from his own telescope observations, and carries its plate title and his signature beneath the image.
A black disc is ringed by a white corona whose rays spread outward, with broad streamers extending to either side across a green sky. A small pink prominence shows at the lower left edge of the disc. The title, Total Eclipse of the Sun, is lettered below with the date and place of observation.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
