This print reproduces Étienne Léopold Trouvelot's chromolithograph of the planet Jupiter as observed on November 1, 1880. It was first published in 1882 in The Trouvelot Astronomical Drawings, a series of plates made from his own telescope observations, and carries its plate title and his signature beneath the image.
The round disc of Jupiter sits against a black ground in pale cream and ochre, crossed by horizontal cloud bands in tan and grey. A salmon-pink oval patch lies in the upper band, with small black spots near it and a row of dark spots along a lower band. The title, The Planet Jupiter, is lettered below with a line giving the date of observation.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
Our prints are produced to museum standards. Each piece is printed on premium heavyweight archival matte paper (325gsm), the same quality used in museums and galleries, giving rich color, deep blacks, and excellent detail.
