Edward Bausch's U.S. Patent 658,611, issued in 1900, documents a microscope. The sheet is headed E. Bausch, Microscope, patented September 25, 1900, with the application filed October 12, 1898, and is marked as one of four sheets. The instrument is drawn upright, standing on a low case-like base.
A single figure, Fig. 1, shows the microscope in front view along a vertical centre line marked x. The long body tube, numbered 33 to 37, rises above a revolving nosepiece carrying objectives marked 39, with a stage marked 14 held by two thumb screws marked 15, a mirror in a ring marked 22, and a rounded base marked 1 to 3 with feet marked 4. The inventor and two witnesses have signed.
