Carl C. Magee's U.S. Patent 2,039,544, granted May 5, 1936, documents a parking meter. The sheet is headed C. C. Magee, Parking Meter, records an application filed December 21, 1932, and is marked sheet 1 of 4 sheets.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the meter: a boxy head with a window reading Vacant and a small lever at the left side, mounted on a tall round post with a flared foot and standing on a paved slab with a stepped edge. Section marks lettered 2 cross the head. Numerals up to 57 label the parts; the inventor's and attorneys' signatures appear below.
