This 1968 nautical chart of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, is U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey chart 249, drawn on a polyconic projection at 1:40,000 with soundings in feet at mean low water. Stone-taupe land, finely veined with roads and marsh, wraps the bay from New Bedford to Falmouth, while pale blue shallows trace every cove and the Cape Cod Canal cuts in at the head.
Lettered on the sheet are New Bedford, Fairhaven, South Dartmouth, Mattapoisett, Marion, Wareham, Onset, Bourne, Pocasset, Cataumet, West Falmouth, Falmouth and Woods Hole, with Clark Cove, Nasketucket Bay, Megansett Harbor and Falmouth Harbor. Naushon, Pasque and Nashawena Islands trail toward Cuttyhunk, and Martha's Vineyard lies across Vineyard Sound. A storm-warning note lists the display stations from Vineyard Haven to South Dartmouth, and a table gives the New Bedford Harbor channel depths.
